年度目標:新台幣450萬元

溪城歲月,就像環繞校園的那條雙溪潺潺不絕的,滑過所有的東吳人心頭。 年輕時的回憶,從一灣溪流開始,坐在圖書館靠窗的席位上,可以看到晴空下鷹鳥的翱翔及遠方蓊蓊鬱鬱的山林,世界就在前面。

圖書館這裡有你的一頁青春,回望坐在閱覽室挑燈夜讀的夜晚,窩在非書與友人看電影的美好時光,埋在電腦檢索區搜尋資料的身影……。曾伴隨許多東吳學子成長的圖書館已走過50個寒暑,早期從寵惠堂三樓的一間典藏4千多冊的圖書室開始,到現今藏有近85萬冊的兩校區圖書館,一路走來受到許多老師、校友、學生家長慷慨捐贈書籍資料,共同豐富了母校的館藏。

今日圖書館面對資訊科技、學術傳播及高等教育的挑戰及衝擊,不管在營運、服務、資源及空間上都需重新加以再造。惟在本校有限資源下,近年來,圖書經費逐年銳減,影響圖書館經營的腳步及本校教學研究的發展。

為彌補資源的不足,圖書館近年主動積極與學系教師合作,以專題計畫方式向國科會申請購書經費,建立特色館藏,也透過交換贈送、加入電子資源合作採購、加強與各合作館的圖書互借服務,增加師生可利用的書籍數量;並適時加入各種聯盟,以分擔經費方式獲得大量的電子書。雖然如此,仍不足以完全滿足教師及學生的需求。

長久以來兩校區圖書館肩負著支援本校人文社會、外國語文、理、法、商、巨量資料管理等6學院23學系的教學研究與推廣學術之重責大任,並為師生提供良好之學習環境。展望未來,母校圖書館將隨著社會進展的脈動,充實館藏資源、推展創新服務及營造優質空間,繼續扮演知識創新的基地,以支援本校的教學與研究。期盼透過各界校友的資助,以每年募集450萬元為目標,為圖書館的發展蓄積動能,增強母校的學術競爭力。

Soochow Library Improvement Project

Life flows quietly like the Shuangxi creek, which is around the campus, and gently slips into the memory of every Soochow man.

The memory is getting clear with the flowing of the meandering creek. Sitting by the window of the library, watching the birds flying in the blue sky and the green mountains far away, I feel the whole world is in front of my eyes.

Could you remember the days how we spend our blooming years in this library? We read until the midnight in the reading room and search the endless information in the computer area…… The library has been there collecting knowledge and providing comfortable learning environment for us for over 50 years! Today, the world is stepping into a competition of information, technology, communication and higher Education. Our library need to be refreshed in the aspects of operations, services, resources and space to sustain the collections and assist the research and development of our university.

Soochow has launched “A Good Book, A Cup of Tea ” to raise money for “Soochow Library Improvement Project” since Nov, 2013 and has raised nearly NTD1,300,000 up until this August (2014). As the old saying: “drops fall into the river, rivers flow into the ocean”, we hope our alumni will keep supporting this project. We believe that every drop of your sincerely devotion will inject energies into the improvement of the library and the academic Competitiveness of Soochow.

The main goal for future development

1.Enrich thelibrary resources,emphasize the core e-characteristics a 1.1 Purchase varies of e Books (100 per year as a target). 1.2 Purchase home edition audio-visual materials (200 per year as a target).

Create new services in response to social changes and trends. Establish the “self-service borrowing and returning system” to increase the utilization of the information. Purchase over 40 potable device (including Tablet PC and E-Book Reader) and 1,000 Reading Room dedicated storage basket. Build the “Book Ultraviolet Disinfection Box” as the defense for the health of teachers and students. Plan for and improve the space of the branch libraries. Build “Learning Commons” for learning, media production, report writing, group discussions and other functions. Build “Soochow Study” to display Soochow publications and teachers works, plan an comfortable open space for discussion, encourage students to share and learn interactively, improve the group learning efficiency.

*Feedbacks

To encourage the donation and increase the fund, we provide “Soochow University Souvenir –Tea Set” for feedbacks besides what is regulated in Soochow “Operational Guidelines for Appreciating Educational Donations” (which states that, if the donation amount is more than NTD100,000 (including NTD100,000), the donator will be invited to attend the appreciation ceremony to accept our thanks). Any donation more than NTD12,000(USD400) or regularly donation more than NTD1000 per month (lasts for over a year) will recieve a feedback of Soochow tea set
